In the Maldives, the island is part of the budget.
A resort stay brings accommodation, meals, sea and activities together in one place. That simplifies the days, but it also means that the transfer and meal plan have a major effect on the total cost. If you prefer to stay on an inhabited island and eat out, the experience is different; compare that freedom with the extra time and transport before choosing based only on the villa photograph.
Choose the season first
The Maldives Meteorological Service indicates a wetter south-west monsoon, usually from mid-May to November; the north-east monsoon is drier and runs from January to March, while December and April are transition months. Temperatures remain warm and humid throughout the year, but rainfall and sunshine hours vary. If your dates are fixed, decide how comfortable you are with showers and ask for an up-to-date view of conditions for your travel window.
| Decision | It may make sense if... | Confirm in the proposal |
|---|---|---|
| One resort island | You want simple days, little logistics and immediate access to the sea. | Villa category, meals, activities and transfer. |
| More complete meal plan | You plan to have lunch at the resort, use the bar and avoid repeated small bills. | Restaurants, opening hours, drinks, minibar and excluded items. |
| Flexible meal plan | You take excursions, eat little at lunch or prefer to choose where to spend your money. | Menu prices, drinks, taxes and unused meals. |
| Local island + resort | You want to add context and a stay with a different pace. | Transport between islands, connecting nights and time lost in changes. |
The transfer can change the first and last day
The official Visit Maldives 2026 guide notes that seaplane transfers operate during the day. A late international arrival may therefore require another connection or an overnight stay. Ask for the exact mode, schedules that work with your flights, baggage allowance, delay policy and whether the transfer is included. A speedboat and a domestic flight are not equivalent: they change the time, cost and comfort of the journey.
Is there a published offer?
The published catalogue changes with the season; there is not always an active offer for the Maldives. A generic figure is not a useful reference: a quote depends on the island, dates, departure airport, room category, transfer and chosen meal plan. You can see the current catalogue to compare other destinations or request a quote for any trip, from your preferred departure airport, through the quote form.
Planning example (not a package): for a first trip, I would start with seven nights on a single resort island, leave an open afternoon between activities and confirm the transfer before booking the flights. If arrival is late, I would compare the cost of a night near Malé with the available transport alternative rather than assume that a seaplane operates at any time.
What to send for a comparison
Share your month, departure airport, number of nights, ages, preference between a beach villa and an overwater villa, meal habits and interest in snorkelling or excursions. Also say whether you would accept a connecting night. With these details, the proposal can show the complete trip cost and logistics.
