Best time to visit Dubai: heat by month

Winter eases the heat. Summer remains visitable, but it changes what you do outdoors. Check averages and official advice.

The right question

Do you want street days or indoor days?

The month changes the street more than the hotel.

Anyone who wants beach, souk and terraces looks at the coolest months (December to March). Anyone travelling in summer plans early mornings, water and air-conditioned spaces.

Best time to visit Dubai: heat by month.

The useful question is not “is there sun?” — there almost always is. It is how much heat you will accept outdoors. Airport-station means (WMO 41194) rise from about 20 ºC in January to about 36 ºC in August. April is already around 28 ºC as a monthly mean; October is still near 30 ºC. These are monthly means, not daily maxima; summer humidity makes it feel hotter.

How to read the year
WindowMean (WMO 41194)What to do
December to MarchThe lowest means in the series (about 20 ºC in January).Beach, souk, terraces and desert at the end of the day.
April and NovemberTransition: still hot, less extreme than August.Check the forecast; keep mornings for outdoors.
May and OctoberAlready very hot (about 32 ºC and 30 ºC).Mornings and the end of the day outdoors.
June to SeptemberThe peak monthly mean (August about 36 ºC).Water, indoors and a short outdoor programme.

Who each window is for

December to March is for anyone who wants streets, souk and desert at the end of the day. April and November are still hot. May and October already need shade at midday. June to September is for anyone who accepts water, indoors and a short outdoor programme — another trip, not the same one with more heat.

Planning example (not a package): five nights in January in one hotel, mixing the city with a desert evening. In August, a hotel with a good pool and few hours outdoors. Give your preferred departure airport.

What should appear in the proposal

  • Month: December to March are the coolest months; June to September is the heat peak.
  • Hotel area and transfer.
  • What is included in parks or the desert.
  • Whether you are travelling with children and whether you accept summer.
  • Your preferred departure airport.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dubai in summer a bad idea?

It is not impossible. It is a different trip: more indoors, more water, less midday outdoors.

Is November still cool?

No. The mean has fallen from August, but it is still hot. Treat November as a transition, not as January.

Which month is the coolest?

January sits around a 20 ºC mean — the lowest point in the series. December to March are the best months for walking outdoors.

Can I go with children in August?

Yes, if the hotel has a good pool and the outdoor programme is short. It is not the same trip as January.

May or October?

Already very hot: means of about 32 ºC and 30 ºC. Mornings and the end of the day outdoors; midday needs shade.
