At Christmas, choose between mild and tropical warmth.
The Canary Islands can offer bright days and mild temperatures for sightseeing. Cape Verde tends to work better if you picture a week at the beach with package logistics. Salvador adds sea, culture and a lively city. The Caribbean and Indian Ocean can offer a more distinctly tropical experience, but require comparison of itineraries, nights and budget. The useful question is how warm you want it and how much travelling you are willing to do.

A real example for New Year’s Eve
In the catalogue checked on 5 September 2026, the Salvador offer showed an 8-night setup from 27 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, with direct flights from Lisbon, accommodation at Rede Andrade Barra, breakfast, transfers and travel insurance. The listing is tagged New Year’s Eve. It is a dated reference, subject to availability and conditions; it should not be read as a proposal for any Christmas week.
Notice the dates as well: 27 December to 4 January includes New Year’s Eve, not the week from 24 to 31 December. If you want to be at the destination on Christmas Day, ask for that window explicitly. Changing the week can change the flight, hotel, occupancy and total amount.
Book by window, not only by destination
New Year’s Eve is a period of high demand in Salvador and other beach destinations; the Bahia Tourism Department identifies summer and New Year’s Eve as strong moments for tourism in Bahia. Start the search with concrete dates, but also compare a few days before or after, keeping the same number of nights and meal plan. This shows whether the cost comes from the destination, celebration, flight or simply the date.
Choose by what you want to experience
If you want sea and rest with little planned, start with Cape Verde. If you prefer outings and mild warmth, compare the Canary Islands. If the trip needs beach, food, music and history, Salvador is a fuller choice. For the Maldives, Zanzibar or the Caribbean, request a dated proposal: without a defined island, transfer and room, a generic price would be misleading.
The request that speeds up the comparison
Give your airport, possible dates, number of nights, travellers, ages, total budget and whether you want Christmas, New Year’s Eve or both. Add your tolerance for connections and preference for resort, city or circuit. The proposal is more honest when it compares the same window and explains each inclusion.
